Yes, our inclement weather policy is that the Free Store will close when Delaware City Schools close because of weather, and/or when Delaware county is under a Level 2 or higher snow emergency. The Free Store stays open when Delaware City Schools has a 2-hour delay. Please watch our social media pages for updates, as we will post our closings as soon as we can. Volunteers will be notified by text or phone call.
Basically, our needs stay the same – you can find the list on our website Donations page. Besides clothing, shoes, new socks/underwear, and household goods, we also take donations of diapers, wipes, toilet paper, and personal care items, such as full size bottles of shampoo, body wash, and deodorant. We also need donations of supplies like styrofoam to-go food containers, 13-gallon and 39-gallon trash bags, Ziploc bags (gallon, quart, and sandwich), paper towels, and masking tape.
No, unfortunately we do not have the room to handle or store large items. We do accept small appliances such as toasters, microwaves, and coffee makers (anything that fits on a shelf).
We can take all baby items except items that can be recalled, like cribs, strollers, car seats, and other equipment.
No, we do not give away any opened or used bottles of any kind. This is a potential safety and contamination issue.
Our donation hours are the same as our shopping hours: Monday and Tuesday 6-8:30 pm, and Wednesday and Saturday 10 am-1 pm. PLEASE DO NOT drop off items when we are closed. We cannot accept or use items that are dropped off in our parking lot.
Due to COVID-19, we are no longer serving meals inside the store. Take-out meals are provided to anyone (do not have to shop) on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6-8:30 and Wednesdays and Saturdays 10-1. Please come to our take-out window on the west side of the store (off Potter Street). No ID required and no questions asked.
